i recently received an email from my dynamic singer friend ade. and i'd like to post some of her comments on karaoke here:

"Hey brother Wind,

As inspiring as your blog is in enlightening me about poetry and providing a great display of the capturing of living art through your pictures, nothing interests me more than literature on karaoke. I tend to think of myself as the antithesis of the 'sneak attack'--i am known in my community as a jazz singer, and people expect me to sing wonderfully via karaoke. However, i am a strange creature; i tend to sing well on stage and horribly elsewhere..(i kid you not).

We learned this at an office karaoke bash (zzzzzzzz), in which i was cornered to sing, and had become tune deaf, vocally challenged and a moronically slow reader of the text on the screen. Friends are still studying this phenomenon that i have, but in the meantime they are still tolerating my singing along in the car (out of politeness, of course. They love me. It's part of the contract..hehe).

From your list of karaoke archetypes, i think you missed one, and it is one i am extremely fond of: "The Entertainer"...This particular karaoke participant, might sing in tune or out, but they do tend to entertain the crowd, by either acting out the words, providing cool or uncool dance moves (i always love it when my friend, Rosie, sings "you give love a bad name" accompanied with her interpretation of contemporary dance infused with 80s dance moves..).

There you have it, a penny for my thought..."

Yeaaaaaaaaahhhhh!
Definitely one of my favorite activities here!
I like the rules at the bottom. You should write the official Singer's Guide To Karaoke. Like the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
I'm looking forward to the next session bro!
